It combines beautifully rendered images with multiplayer functionality in a game of business strategy. You will be able to make deals with the eccentric inhabitants of Zapinalia, invest in stocks & bonds, corner the market and construct megastores. You can also venture out to explore the Archipelago of Mermadan in search of treasure and mysterious relics. The first player to build a retail empire and outwit the competition wins.

Zapitalism Rated 4.5 stars OUTSTANDING by King Brocoli
You can take your Dope Wars and your Wall Street Kids and you can cram them in your ear. Because when it comes to money management games,
Zapitalism
is where it's at. Positioning you on a far away planet, and putting you in direct competition with half a dozen other consortiums, Zapitalism is the only place to come to if you're after a half-baked, get-rich-quick scheme. By combining an accessible and enjoyable business side of things with the meddlesome ways of Lady Luck, this is a game about much more than just buying and selling.
The beginning of the game gives you the choice to choose from one of six entrepreneurs, each one desperate to make it big.Every one of these megalomaniacs come with some kind of a business advantage;one of them may have a girlfriend in the travel bureau, letting you travel around the game-world for free, whilst another may recieve shop renovations from the builders union at a great discount. It's a cutthroat world out there, and you're going to need every little edge you can get to stay ahead of the pack.
Your main goal here is to run the most successful and profitable store in the land. You do this by purchasing stock for your store, the stuff that you think is most likely to sell enormous amounts (of course it's not a process left entirely up to chance, you'll be treated to graphs concerning consumer demand, the amount of stock in supply, and other hodgepodge). You've got to try and shape the contents of your store to suit the voracious demands of your customers, and continually clear your shelves of everything you bought. If everything goes according to plan then it'll be store upgrades and greater shelf space that follow. It's a process that threatens to plummet into a state of tedium, but one that'll just somehow manage to keep you hooked and playing for an extra month or two.
One excellent aspect of Zapitalism is its insistence to lavish rewards upon success. The game is split up into weeks, and at the beginning of each week you'll go about your trading. If you've spun your wheel of fortune correctly, and the price is right, you'll have the opportunity to throw your opposition into jeopardy with all of the privileges coming your way! Judging all of the stores by their resources each week (store size, total profit; etc.) and ranking them in order, the most opulent retailer gets his turn first! What this means is that the fat-cat on top of the pile gets first pick of the stock (it's not unlimited, you know!) and the chance to capitalize on any business offers thrown around. This formula is an inspired way to reward the better players, and gives them the chance to stay on top, which is where they well belong!
But it's never just all about business suits and premium rates. Random events run rife in Zapitalism, and can single-handedly change the fortunes of a company. Whether your company poaches the head employee of another, or your store is ravaged thoroughly by a hurricane, these little events ensure the game never launches a player into boredom. Each week you even get a chance to travel to a distant place on the map, and that in itself launches a random event that will immediately effect your bank balance.Sure, the majority of the game focuses on the content of your store's shelves, but these little adventures on the side all play a part in your (and Zapitalism's) success.
So what Zapitalism sets down for the player is a clearly defined routine. At the beginning of each week you're required to trade the stocks, go scavenging through the wilderness, deal with shoprenovations, and send a crew of your men sailing to exotic locations all over the world to help you stay ahead of the pack. It may sound like a big, repetitive yawn, but Zapitalism's corny sense of fun and inherent competitive nature make it a force to be reckoned with. Your computer opponents are also always willing to make your stay an enjoyable one. They'll do anything you want; whether it be wallow helplessly in a state of bankruptcy or build up as mall fortune in the space of a fortnight. They'll be happy to provide any level of challenge you need, and this guaranteed fiscal challenge is one of Zapitalism's main long-term drawing points.
The graphics do wonders to add character to a dull premise. The game has a very quirky feel about it, using all kinds of strange shapes and colors as physical representations of the environment and its commodities. But altogether it's a very cheery and light-hearted place you're working in; far-flung from the drab menu system executed by its contemporaries. The sound in Zapitalism is bordering on brilliance. With an upbeat soundtrack, separate themes for each of the corporations, and a plethora of interesting little sound effects, it's hard to find fault with this big bundle of noise. The graphics and sound effects both meld together nicely to draw the player further and further into a Zapitalism addiction. After all, how could you possibly switch off when you're having such a good time?
As an overall package Zapitalism is a gem.
Using brainpower and luck in equal parts, it's a game that will continuously test your mettle, and have you enjoying it immensely in the process. Don't be fooled by the seemingly banal premise, this is an exciting game, and one that should be tried by anybody who has a computer spare, THIS MEANS YOU (and if it doesn't, then your access to this review is frightening). Try Zapitalism, and make all of the money that you've always dreamed about but will never get.
For DOS/Windows (via DOSBox)
[Please review compatibility/platformsections below]
COMPATIBILITY:
All computers are different so a game may install and work on one system but may need adjustments on another. This is due to many factors like
the OS platform running, video card you have, drivers, protection software installed, etc. Often makers release game updates to enhance and fix bugs. Compatibility issues are the responsibility of the buyer.
Search Google for the name of the game along with the words "system requirements" to determine if your system is suitable. We are not responsible for software compatibility problems or publisher's errors.
PLATFORM:
Game platforms (ie. Windows, Mac,...) need to be researched by the buyer. Games that came out
PRIOR
to XP or higher will not specifically state they will work on that release, but only because they came out before those versions were made. Some will work on XP or higher with a few quick adjustments. For DOS games, you may need to play it with a free DOSbox program if the Program Compatibility Wizard does not work.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THESE ARE OLD CLASSIC GAMES WHICH ARE NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK ON TODAY’S OPERATING SYSTEMS AND ARE
BEST PURCHASED BY VINTAGE GAME COLLECTORS WHO KNOW THE VALUE OF WHAT THEY ARE PURCHASING.
64-Bit Windows OS Systems:
For 64-bit Operating Systems, older games most likely will NOT work due to 64-bit systems not being able to run 16-bit programming code (most games prior to 2000). For DOS games, you may need to play it with a free DOSbox program.
