Description
With these modules it is possible to add sound function to a locomotive who has a decoder with aux switch function. We have other sound boards for
any
locomotive. There is a choice between different horn sounds and steam whistles, you can also choose large or small speakers or no speaker.
Look in our other items for sale. In doubt just send us an email.
This is a simple Horn sound of a european style diesel locomotive. It is designed to be used only on 21 pin decoders or other decoders which have a pure DC output.
If it is not pure it won't sound right. We have a different version (slightly larger) which can be used in any application (see my other listings) This version is smaller and cheaper.
Marklin 60972, 60982, MLD or MLD3, DCC and ESU newer style. (Aux switch functions 21 pin)
Decoder with Aux switch function, most will have a 21-pin installation board, which makes the install very easy (see picture). Important! the Orange wire needs to be connected to + UB (positive) the Blue wire connects to the decoder Aux output and is (- negative). If this is switched it will not work and may destroy the decoder and module. Marklin uses orange for +UB so here just connect orange with orange.
The Aux output is
not
a blue wire it can have any color depending on your decoder depending which output you want to use. In doubt refer to the 21 pin diagram on the back side, which shows what pin is for what Aux output.
With this install the sound will play every time the corelating function is pressed and released (impulse function).
No
capacitor is needed for these multi-function decoders.

Steam Horn Sound
All norm 21 pin decoders have their +UB on pin 16 to which you need to connect the orange wire from the sound board.
The blue wire needs to go to one of the available Aux ports, which are as follows.
AUX1 (Pin 15), Aux2 (Pin 14), Aux3 (Pin 13), Aux4(Pin 4), Aux5 (Pin 17)
I
mportant !!!! Warning !!!!!!
This sound module is for DC use only, it will work with DCC locomotives and the newer Marklin/Trix AC decoders who use MFX, MM protocol. (if you see a permanent magnet, no coil in the motor you are fine)
This module will
not
work for Delta or analog AC locomotives (if your lights have only one wire going to it and the chassis ground is used. Or if there is an electromagnet in the motor. !!! We have a different kind of module for these types. # 104060.
Basic soldering skills are needed to install the module, if you wish we can install it professionally for you for .00 plus shipping both ways. If you are not familiar with the workings of decoders and what connect where, it is easy possible to fry the decoder; and this is a costly repair for which we deny all liabilities…that is on you.
This install of the sound module is designed to be very simple all you need are 2 soldering connections, if you feel comfortable after reading the manual in its entirety proceed with the modification. There are 2 types of modern decoders some allow for extra switch functions; others are limited to a light switch function only. This board is for the 21-pin style only. We have another type for the cheaper one light function only decoders.
Marklin 60972, 60982, MLD or MLD3, DCC and ESU newer style. (Aux switch functions 21 pin)
